That means we're headed to Tampa instead! Beautiful rowing, plus we'll be much closer to the beach!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) after practice we'll be having a short meeting for those attending spring break to discuss specifics of what to bring and what we'll be doing. Come with ideas for places to go in Tampa. So far, we're thinking of Clearwater Beach, Busch Gardens and possibly a hockey game.Missouri Crewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14038236146225280710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3716937425280209461.post-51003194205979789312012-01-19T16:00:00.000-08:002012-01-19T16:00:14.986-08:00Join Rowing this Spring!Want to row for Missouri Crew? The better your attendance at practice, the faster you'll fit into that itty bitty teeny weeny SPANDEX for spring break in Florida...
It's also that awesome time of year for recruitment: Tell your friends and new classmates to come out for rowing this semester. The sooner they start working out with the team, the faster they'll be on the water.

Our info meeting is Thursday, Feb 9 at 7pm in Arts and Science room 201. Tell everyone!

We will also be tabling in the Student Center Feb 7 and 8 from 9-3 and we need your help! Text Tarah if you are available for even an hour on one of those days.Missouri Crewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14038236146225280710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3716937425280209461.post-27606858048143474082011-10-31T09:46:00.000-07:002011-10-31T10:35:09.678-07:00Missouri Crew Wins Big at Home and on the RoadMissouri Crew is approaching the final regatta of the Fall 2011 season...and what a season it's been!

Missouri Crew won 1st place in the University of Missouri Centennial Homecoming Parade!

Congrats to the women's lightweight 4+ for winning 1st place in Moline, IL.

Congrats to the women's novice 4+ for winning 3rd place in Rockford, IL.

Frostbite Regatta in Wichita, KS is November 6...Here's hoping to end the season on a high note!

Missouri Crewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14038236146225280710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3716937425280209461.post-10916440092601681922011-09-01T06:43:00.000-07:002011-09-01T06:43:42.175-07:00Interested in joining Crew?We just had our info meetings for fall semester, but don't despair! We are applying to move from tier 4 to tier 3, meaning we would be allocated an extra $2500. Right now we have adequate numbers and competition days to ascend to the next level. However, we will be trying to add an extra 4 competition days and recruit new members so we can move up to tier 2. Instead of racking up high travel expenses transporting the entire team and our boats, we will be sending small groups or individuals to erging competitions in the future. Please let Alina know if you would be willing to participate in supplementary ergathons. Regardless of whether or not you plan to be an extra erg competitor, everyone should be recruiting friends and aquaintances to join the team. We always need more members!

New Driver Payment System
Since we have experienced problems with reimbursing those who volunteer to drive to regattas, we have decided on a new system. Instead of the driver submitting his or her receipt and waiting to be reimbursed, this season those who are not driving will bring cash to put in the "gas fund" for each driver to fill up on gas on the way there and back. The driver will not need to submit money for his or her own gas. Although everyone will have to contribute money for each trip, it will prevent us from tacking on extra travel expenses to team dues.

Expenses
We must erect a chain link fence at Little Dixie Lake before we can begin storing our boats there. We need to do this before spring break so we can get right on the water afterwards. The fence is estimated to cost $250. Alina also recommends we spend some of our allocation to buy a SpeedCoach, a device that will allow the coxswain to see how fast the boat is moving. We also need to raise some serious cash to purchase a bubble dock for the lake. See Dakota if you're interested in helping with fundraising.

Spring Break
We are going to Gainesville, FL over spring break! We will be rowing out of the Gainesville Area Rowing club boathouse and making day trips to Clearwater Beach and Orlando. (Orlando is only a two hour drive from Gainesville.) We will be voting on which parks to go to in Orlando, and we may be giving away some free theme park tickets to those with the best attendance at practice. A tentative itinerary and budget will be available soon, so start getting serious about that bikini bod! Spring break is optional, but highly recommended. Those who attend will gain a serious rowing edge and have lots of bonding time with the rest of the team.Missouri Crewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14038236146225280710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3716937425280209461.post-50351764206571802092011-01-05T15:42:00.000-08:002011-01-05T15:43:48.423-08:00Attention New and Experienced Rowers: Winter Conditioning InfoAs you all (hopefully) know, our first official practice for spring semester will be Monday, January 24, 2011 at 6:05 a.m at the Rec. We should be warmed up beforehand. Let's all be on time for Day 1, eh? We're talking real time guys, not regatta time.

Experienced Rowers: Don't forget to to do a 2000m and a 500m on the erg that first week we're back at school and send your times and weight to Alina!

Also, we should have some new members joining us at practice, so make sure to be extra warm and welcoming. We want these guys to join our little rowing family for good.

New Rowers: Please come out to practice with us this winter! Even though we're not on the water yet, working out with the team will give you a chance to bond with everyone, get you in great shape, and give you a serious edge for the season.

We meet Mon-Fri at the Rec upstairs by the indoor track. Go upstairs, walk to your right all the way to the back-right corner by the rowing machines that overlooks the basketball courts. Find somebody and tell them you're there for rowing!

Don't forget your ID to get into the Rec. Dress is casual--think comfy workout clothes and athletic shoes with good support. Bring a water bottle if you like. Some of us usually eat breakfast together after practice, so now might be a good time to step up that meal plan to 14+!

Hope to see you there!Missouri Crewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14038236146225280710noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3716937425280209461.post-63543463410374408042010-12-05T19:29:00.000-08:002011-01-28T12:25:40.489-08:00Executive Meeting RecapWell rowers, your dedicated executives and Alina met tonight to touch base on things before break. Here's what we talked about:

Nike Orders: Denzel has been on top of the Nike people. Despite disorganization on their part, everyone should be receiving ordered apparel soon.

Funding: Next semester we will be evaluated for what tier we fall in for funding. We should move up and receive more funding next year (Fall 2011).

Drivers' Reimbursements: Laurie and Tigger have been working to get money back to drivers, but the Club Sports people seem to be dragging their heels as always. Reimbursement forms are due next Thursday, so hopefully Tigger can contact them in time to get this done. In the future, Laurie will be collecting receipts from drivers immediately after regattas to ensure timely reimbursement.

First Practice: The first official (read: required) practice of Spring semester will be Monday, January 24 at the Rec. See our nifty new events calendar.

Boat Repairs: Alina would like Thompson and TJ (our new Equipment Guru) to do small boat repairs so we can learn how to fix our boats before little problems become big, expensive problems.

Fundraising: Dakota is looking into doing fundraisers at McAlister's Deli and Noodles and Co. after break. Remember, we are trying to raise about $5,000(!!!) for a new dock for Little Dixie. We also need a fence.

Spring Break: Denzel is looking at pricing for Atlanta, New Orleans, Tampa and Orlando to compare and see where we want to go.

Recruitment: There is a clubs sports fair Wednesday, January 26 that we need to table. I will be there for sure, but it would be nice to get others involved. We will be recruiting for the beginning of the semester and well as March when we actually get back on the water. I will hold two info sessions in January, two in February and two in March. I will need some people to help put up flyers in residential halls right when we return from break as well as people to stock the table tents in the dining halls February 7th.

Missouri Crewhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14038236146225280710noreply@blogger.com0
